Brixham Pirate Festival 2025 Draws Thousands for a Weekend of Swashbuckling Fun

The Brixham Pirate Festival 2025 once again transformed the tranquil Devon fishing town into a vibrant haven of maritime revelry over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. From May 3rd to 5th, an estimated 30,000 visitors descended upon Brixham Harbour, immersing themselves in a celebration that has grown into one of the world’s largest pirate gatherings since its inception in 2002.

The festival commenced with its traditional pirate parade at 10:30 am on Saturday, featuring a lively procession along the harbourside. Attendees showcased elaborate costumes, including lifelike portrayals of iconic characters such as Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow, with even pets joining the fun.

Throughout the weekend, the main stage and the town square rang with live music from bands like Queen Anne’s Revenge, The Quartermasters, Captain’s Beard, and the Sweet Chunks Band, drawing dancing crowds and enhancing the festive atmosphere.

A highlight of the festival was the Golden Hind, a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s 16th-century galleon, permanently docked in Brixham Harbour. This floating museum offered visitors hands-on exhibits and insights into life aboard a Tudor ship. Festival-goers explored its decks and enjoyed special performances, including skirmishes that brought maritime history to life.

The Brixham Pirate Festival remains a free-to-attend event, relying on the support of volunteers, donors, and sponsors. Local businesses and organisations contributed significantly, with Brixham Town Council awarding £5,000 to ensure the festival’s success. Other supporters included Security Management South West Ltd, TEAMSS Medical Services Ltd, and NSL Solutions Brixham.
